Clinical supervisors play a critical role in our students’ clinical education. We are very pleased that you have joined us in the supervision of the next generation of speech therapists. Who are our Clinical Supervisors?
All of our clinical supervisors hold a qualification in speech and language therapy/pathology from a recognized university program, and have at least 2 years of post-graduate clinical experience as a speech therapist. Many have had several years of experience in clinical supervision.
Why are speech therapists involved in clinical supervision?
Through clinical supervision, speech therapist colleagues can
- contribute to the development of the profession,
- stay connected with your alma mater or a university training program,
- develop knowledge and skills on clinical supervision,
- engage in continuing education in the process of supervised practice with the student.
What do we expect from our Clinical Supervisors?
We expect our clinical supervisors to
- demonstrate assessment and therapy skills to the student,
- direct the student to relevant clinical references and resources,
- provide feedback on the student’s skills and progress on an ongoing basis,
- share plan and report templates used in your setting with the student,
- introduce the student to the routines of your setting and introduce them to key personnel,
- complete the mid-block and end-block evaluation and help the student set goals for further development,
- engage in continuation education on clinical supervision.
What can we do for our Clinical Supervisors?
We will
- Invite you to a talk to introduce you to our curriculum, our clinical education program and our philosophy of clinical supervision,
- inform you about seminars and workshops held at the Division of Speech and Hearing Sciences,
- provide you with a facility card that allows you access to our library books as well as electronic resources.
