The need for a tutor guide was first suggested by our staff soon after we had done the
trial PBL programme in 1996. At that time, what we were looking for was a
conventional, informative kind of text guide that would enable tutors to quickly locate
all the necessary information, like: problems, resources, learning issues, course
objectives, readings, etc, prior to each tutorial. It would also give a general
background on PBL as well as the syllabus details to new tutors.
Later on, we decided to add the interactive components to our tutor guide by putting it "online" - an initial idea as inspired by Mr. Jonathan Marsh, Centre for Advancement of University Teaching, University of Hong Kong.
This web-based Tutor Guide is superior over the text guide in three ways. First, it allows tutors to have a more direct and esay assess to course information. Second, it provides a platform for online tutor interactions. These could be sharing of opinions, posting of announcements, suggesting amendments to course materials, etc. Third, its web-based nature makes administration and updating easier.
Note: Access to this PBL Tutor Guide is restricted to tutors in the Department of Speech and Hearing Sciences only
