The Hong Kong Corpus of Primary School Chinese (2007)

Dr Man Tak Leung, University of Hong Kong.

This CD-ROM captures the reading experience of primary school students in Hong Kong. The content of the corpus are Chinese characters extracted from teaching materials (textbooks and supplementary exercise books) used by local primary schools. Each Chinese character is entered as a separate record with fields specifying the grade it is taught, its frequency of occurrence across grades, phonetic radical, regularity and consistency values. The corpus serves as a useful tool for the selection of stimuli for research studies that focus on the recognition and naming of Chinese characters as well as for the selection of teaching materials for primary students.
